17th April 2022 Homeward Bound

Got up to see amazing views of the full moon that we weren’t able to see last night as it was too cloudy

First morning since we have camped here that we have been able to see the colours in the sky of the sun rising

There is the sun rising through the trees. First time we have seen where it rises
The 4 is our campsite number

Farewell to the cows. First time I have seen any on this part of the property. We have only seen horses

Out through the muddy track for the last time

Going through here has been our routine for the past couple of days. Have got quite used to opening and closing each of the gates

Heading for Woodenbong

The road took us through Liston

Still on the Mt Linsey Rd. Still in the Tenterfield shire

Didn’t stop to look at the memorial

Liked this sign outside the school yard

The typical quaint little country town church in Liston

There go those pretty coloured introduced species of trees again

Passed this massive dish on someone’s property!!
We turned into the Aloomba Lavender farm that the person at the visitor centre told us was worth a visit. Lots of lavender growing

And a gift shop selling all things lavender, but nothing that interested me and no actual lavender or even plants to buy, so the trauma of driving into their not very friendly towing van park, was all for nought!!

On the road again…

Some good surfaced road

Some gravel road but still in good condition

Passed through Legume

From now on there were quite a few roadworks

and road improvements

Improvements obviously needed when sections of the road are like this

Impressive bridge over the Koreelah creek

Just as well there was this warning sign as the road was in poor condition. Didn’t stop some drivers hurtling past though

Eventually we reached Woodenbong, where we were hoping that we would find somewhere for lunch

This place looked inviting

Which it was with all sorts of historic photos and information about the town and the area on the walls, including this photo showing what this building was in its former life

Unfortunately we had been a bit spoilt previously with the class of lunches we had had previously, as our lunch here was a bit ordinary ☹️ but filled us up all the same.

Interesting murals on the town toilet block

Not sure about the significance of the Yowie?

Continuing on the Mt Lindsey Rd

But then turning off onto the Summerland way towards Beaudesert

Good road
Interesting very tall trees here

Soon we were at the border- unmanned of course

A border marker to celebrate the centenary of Federation and to commemorate the survey of the QLD - NSW border

A commemorative obelisk acknowledging Westrays gallantry and sacrifice in seeking help when their airliner travelling from Brisbane to Sydney in 1937 crashed on mountains nearby

Oops winding roads back into Queensland

Now onto the Mt Lindsey Highway

With mountain views

And traffic holdups as the roads get repaired

The line of cars behind us

More narrow winding roads but picturesque all the same

Rathdowney next town to pass through

Starting to get into familiar territory

The road bypassed Beaudesert

Not far now
On to the motorways soon and home in time to unpack the car and some of the items in the van
Left the car attached to the van out the front overnight. Moving the van up the back the next day after washing the mud off it

This Hema map shows the route that we took home. A really nice drive. Much nicer than driving on highways all the way home.
