Busy packing ready to head off

So, we finally got away at about midday
We headed towards Wivenhoe to check out the levels of the dam

We called into Cormorant Bay first for a view across the lake, then went over the spillway to the other side to the information area where we checked out the Auxiliary spillway

Views across the lake certainly showed how high the water level was

Continuing on our journey, we were delayed awhile by roadworks. These roadworks consisted of patching up potholes that had developed during the flooding. Heading towards our destination of Glenore Grove for the day, we took the turn off to Coominya.  

Way past lunch time we stopped off in Coominya to buy some sandwiches which we ate at the old Mill site. We had passed through here a few times on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail but had not learnt the history of the logging in the area

Next we took a bit of a detour through beautiful green farming country

To check out Lake Atkinson. 
Wow what a difference to the last time we were here where we had to walk quite some distance to the water.



After this we took the back road through Lockrose passing over the Lockyer Creek which would have been flooded



Finally reaching Glenore Grove and Paula and Kev’s in plenty of time for afternoon tea 

Then drinks and dinner and the usual beautiful skies

We decided that we would go for a drive today as far as Deepwater, checking out other points of interest and walks along the way. Chilly overcast morning. First morning we haven’t had sunshine so we have been spoilt till now really Our first destination for the day was Thunderbolts. The walk started from Nomads Picnic area. The toilet block looks new and was most likely rebuilt after the 2029 bush fires. The shelter shed being built of stone obviously was Ok but there are signs of burn scarring  The Nomads picnic area itself looks substantial with plenty of space  The start of the Thunderbolts Walk had what looks like a counter at the start Pretty walk with lots of rocks beside the track  and lots of new growth with long grass either side of the track. 9th April another day at Kwiambal

Didn’t feel too good this morning. Had a lousy night’s sleep because I had suddenly developed a sore throat in the evening. So slow moving this morning. Also had just realised that we had in fact got another day here, whereas I thought that we were leaving today. We were going to do the Kookibitta to Lemon Tree Flat walk first then pack up and leave, so it was lucky that we weren’t leaving. It meant that we didn’t have to rush. We did the walk Just like yesterday’s hike, the trail was not well marked. In fact it was worse than yesterday because there were no signs along the way at all. We did however, have AllTrails and Gaia to navigate by and as long as we kept the river on our right we were OK!!!!
