11th April 2022 Pindari Dam to Blatherarm Campground in Torrington NP

Not far to travel today so we didn’t rush, although I did get up to see a mediocre sunrise but still worth taking photos with the views across the water.

Finally the sun did come up over the hill at 6:46!!!

We decided that we would walk along the road to the dam wall

Good views of the lake all along the way

We stopped to chat to Clayton, one of the workers looking after the dam.
Interesting info on the plaques - work started in 1991 and was finished in 1995

The dam wall is quite extensive so took a while to walk across

Especially as we kept stopping to look below

Looks like a small hydro set up down there

Walked down to the spillway at the other end

The spillway

Bill noticed that one of the trees had mistletoe on it and we have noticed that a lot of the trees along the roadside also have mistletoe on them

We walked back over.
Note the height level markers down the side

We stopped off at the picnic area on the way back to check it out. Not a bad spot for day trippers

Had to take of photo of this huge fruiting cactus. We have seen so many of them around the area

Walking back to the campsite along the road we kept hearing the noise of the guard rail expanding and contracting.

We walked back to our site via the track down by the water and came across a goanna which scurried away from us up a tree.

I tracked our walk using AllTrails

Back at camp had a bit to do to pack up as I did some washing and pegged it to the rail. Bill had also pegged out the solar panels so it took a while to pack them away. Fortunately it was sunny where we were so that did give us a bit of a top up.
Farewell to our great camp spot

And on the road at midday.
Didn’t stay a surfaced road for long

Wasn’t a bad road. A bit of road maintenance happening along the way

A bit of water over the road still after all the rain

A few turn offs along the way. Our destination Emmaville, hopefully for a lunch stop feed.

Went from one shire to another

Another turn off

Across the gushing Severn River

Then finally Emmaville,

Pulling up at the pub hoping for a meal and a drink

We were not disappointed. The meals were so huge that we brought some of it away as takeaway

It was interesting there because when we walked in there were several locals who happily chatted to us about the area and it’s mining history  - Tin, Tungsten, Bismuth and Arsenic.
A bit further to go along dirt roads till we reached Torrington

We took a wrong turn in Torrington as it wasn’t at all clear which way to go and there were no road signs directing us to the Blatherarm camp site so we had to turn back into town. There we studied a National Parks notice board that had a wealth of information about the area and a map.

Whilst in town we decided to avail ourselves of their toilets.
A beautiful stone building, with designs in the stonework

And interesting inside

Back on track a few more dirt roads

Where the country terrain had altered to rocky

and with turns off, and with helpful signage now

we reached Blatherarm Camp ground. But then at first couldn’t work out where camp site 1 was.

Eventually we found it back down the road.
What an amazing site. Away from all the other sites with an easy turning circle, on level ground, surrounded by bush AND there is no one else at the other camp sites anyway, so we have the whole place to ourselves

Pretty skies

This is where we are camped

There was other interesting information on the notice board at our campsite

Our plan is to explore Ugly Corner Falls and Mystery Face tomorrow

This was our route for the day. Noting that we went quite a way past the turn off by mistake!!!!

One other exciting piece of information I need to add here is that there was success with putting power into the batteries and they were up to 70% by the time we reached the campsite
Turned in after sundown as it had become quite chilly
