8th April 2022 Kwiambal
Woke to the sounds of the squawking Cockatoos and the babbling waters of the Severn river and a pretty sunrise sky
Our plan for the day was to explore the park as it looked like there were some interesting walks. The main walk being the loop track along beside the Severn river to “The Junction” the junction with the McIntyre River and then back along the Junction track.

We decided to drive to Lemon Tree Flat campground to start the walk. We were surprised to find some campers there as the website indicated that it was closed. We chatted to a couple before heading off on the walk.
Undaunted we thought that we would still check it out.
At first we had difficulty where the walk was meant to start as although there was a sign, the whole area had flood debris washed up over it

We did manage to make our way around the side of this tree
and follow in the direction we thought that the track went,

It took as a bit of meandering over the area to find the track to begin with

But fortunately there were signs along the way

The entire walk was amazing with plenty of magical surprises along the way. I took sooo many photos with too many to include here, so now I have to decide which to include!!!!
The first major attraction we came to was the Severn River Falls, with a spectacular site from the lookout spot of both the falls and a bend in the river, so with views in both directions.

We came across evidence of there being some maintenance work on the track, but obviously just with the signage.
We enjoyed checking out the interesting rock formations

Especially ones like these.,

And this

Our next stop was “The Dungeon” where there was a specially built lookout.
With great views of the Severn River in both directions

And following the not too well marked track although sections like this are obvious
and this

We found a good spot along the track, overlooking the river, where we had signal so I decided to ring all three offspring to touch base, while Bill made the most of one of the rocks
At one point further on the track Bill stopped to pull some thorns out of his socks. Perfect place to do it as he spotted an unusual frog
Onwards through the bush, trying to find the path
Eventually we reached the junction with great views of the rivers
Where we walked down to it

We then headed back along The Junction track - a well marked maintenance track.
Easier going but a lot of steep hills
We have periodically caught site of wild goats roaming the area. We have also seen emus, a couple of black piglets, wallabies, kangaroos that I didn’t manage to get any photos of

Finally 4 hours later we reached the end of the junction track and the road into Lemon Tree campground

Back at camp we had a bit of a rest and a late lunch.

a couple turned up to camp in site 3.
We started out going to the lookout which in itself gave a spectacular view

On the track down to the Rockpool there were more interesting rock formations
And we came across a large echidna
Once we got to the Rockpool we were in awe of the volume of water coming down the falls and the rock formations there

After dragging ourselves away from the view we returned to the picnic area to read the information board there. Lots of useful information about the area
This piece of information was particularly interesting

As we had just seen more goats
Other information included the history of the area

Back to campsite after this, but stopping off at the sign that indicated there was phone reception, so I rang Chasely to thank her for going over to our place to read the gas meter
a light snack for dinner and early to bed

fortunately with the help of tracking on our devices - Bill using Gaia and me using All Trails, we did finally manage to find the track, very overgrown in places,
But fortunately there were signs along the way
