14th April 2022 Torrington to Stonepine Ridge via Tenterfield

Lots of rain during the night but thank goodness it had stopped by the morning

We took our time packing up as we were waiting for things to dry out.
Bill took a photo of the new shoots breaking through the bark, from a Eucalypt that had been burnt in the fires

We were packed up and out on the road by 10:00
Heading back out towards Torrington we took the turn off along Sharratt Rd.

but still headed back into town to find a good spot to put air back in the tyres.
Whilst Bill was doing that,  I went across the road to look at the memorial park where there were masses of sundews
Soon back out onto the road to Tenterfield

We went via Deepwater but turned off before getting there

Down Bolivia Hill again

Past where we turned down Pyes Creek rd yesterday

And on to Tenterfield, stopping off at the Bluff Rock viewing area

Where there were good views of the rock

and information about the area

I had started to look at Wikicamps for points of interest along the way. Hence we stopped off at this site

Difficult getting across the fencing, but was an interesting site of the old station.

With old commemoration plaques

And 2001 100 yr old federation memorial stone
Before long we had reached Tenterfield where we first of all headed for the Information centre, where we picked up information about where we were headed. We also got a very good tip about where to go for lunch.

The Bohemian Tea room just up the road where we could walk to without moving the car and van
Delicious hearty meals in a pleasant environment

A couple more tasks to complete before getting on the road again, refuelling with diesel and topping up our water tank, which we were able to do at the Showgrounds campground for a $5 fee

Back through town I managed to snap some photos of historic buildings, such as Stannum House

and the Post Office

Hopefully we will get time to come back into Tenterfield to walk through the town to look at some of the places the person in the information centre told us about. But time to move on now.
Road out of town was very pretty

Soon we were out on the Mt Lindsey rd north - a road in good condition

Passing through notable areas

Finally we reached the road to the the turn off to Stonepine Ridge

Then the road the property is on

We were met at the property gate by the owner

Who then took us in through gates and paddocks

Passed some beautiful horses

Along very muddy tracks

Past cow paddocks

All the while we are driving through all these gates and paddocks the weather is becoming more threatening

Finally we arrived at our designated camp spot at what was called Long Paddock

Unfortunately the ground was quite sloping so it took us a while to set up

We have a drop toilet close by - the only facility for our $40 a night stay

But then we have the views

This map shows our travel for the day

This enlarged section of the map shows how far we travelled on the property before we reached our designated camp site

After we finished setting up the van

We sat and watched the sun setting

As the evening wore on it got chillier so we turned the heater on in the van and settled ourselves inside
