12 April 2022 Exploring Torrington SCA
No special sunrise photos this morning we are surrounded by beautiful trees. Sun just peeking through the trees
Our views around the van, unfortunately spoilt by my washing hoist. Fortunately there is a water tank here so I was able to wash a few undies

We discovered that we had left our very useful handy stool that we use to reach into the back of the car behind at Pindari, so Bill has improvised and rolled a big tree stump over to use in its place

Before heading off for our walks we decided to check out the other campsites here. We were surprised to find someone in the next one along. A man (Ron) on his own, driven all the way over from Busselton WA to catch up with family here
Quite a few signs around the area, to beware of mine shafts
We crossed the stony creek to check out the other camp sites, that were equally as nice.
We drove as far as the end of the road
To get to Ugly Falls walk we had to drive quite a way back towards Torrington. The walk started out as a wide track

Nothing special about the walk, although was through pretty scenery
With water and mud in places

And pretty wild flowers
And sundews

Before long though the landscape changed to more rocky
and the path narrowed down to a small track down to the falls
Spectacular views of the creek with water falling over the rocks
We thought that was the falls until we saw an arrow on the rocks

What we couldn’t see from there was the huge high falls around the corner

On the way back down Bill walked further up across the other side where there was a rock pool below and above where he was so I decided to follow
In typical me fashion I slipped!!!! Bill didn’t see me slip but this is where it happened. My phone fell in the water as is typical with me. We took it out of the case and dried it straight away, so fortunately it is OK.

I did continue on to get a photo of the pool above, seeing as I had gone up there

A few interesting shots on the way back up…

Track back up was quite steep and heavy going and it was starting to get quite hot.

We came across this huge ants nest on the way back too
This is the track that I recorded using the AllTrails app. The wiggly part at the end is where we did lots of climbing and exploring around the falls

As the signage stated, the walk started a far way down a gravel road, but a good road nonetheless
The walk was a loop walk that made it all the more interesting, because we were doing the walk in the middle of the day it was nice that it was a narrow track with lots of shade. It started out wide
But soon got narrow
Very pretty colours
Started to get excited when I saw a few large granite rocks, not realising what treat was in store

Quite a few dead trees due to an earlier bush fire. Found out later that it was a massive bush fire in 2019, that caused a lot of devastation to the area and the wildlife

A few wildflowers still out

We decided to take the loop to the Mystery Face first
The route was well signed
We started to see some large and interesting shaped rocks before we even got to The Mystery Face

There were steps along the way through some of the tricky bits

Finally we reached Mystery Face and of course we knew when we had got there
And the obligatory posed photo

We had a lot of fun in this area
and rocks to climb over
Bill took this photo of me inside the rocks from the top of the rock he is climbing over

and then zoomed in on me

Rocks to climb through

and great views

Finally we dragged ourselves away from there and continued on the loop track to the Westminster Rocks.

Not sure what this was?

Again tearing ourselves away from having fun exploring here, we continued on the loop back to the car
Yum

and a well earned drink

A pretty sunset tonight

And a visible moon

Glass of wine and cheese and bikkies for supper

Chilly evening. Ended up turning the heater on in the van for a while.

This set of rocks were even more interesting with all sorts of caverns to squeeze into and through

and finding more interesting rock formations on the way. We decided this one was a pig

This track shows the overall walk

This track shows where we explored around Mystery Face

And this track shows where we explored amongst Westminster Rocks

By the time we got back to camp we were more than ready for our late lunch of Pork stir fry
